Marvel’s Impressive 2017 TV Slate

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has become a widely popular franchise all over the world with both critical and commercial success. Its TV shows turned out to be more mature and gained wide recognition among all age groups. This year Marvel’s got three big flicks in the MCU and a lot of TV shows that will propel the brand even further. It’s an impressive group.

Marvel fans, gear up for a highly anticipated list of TV shows all set to premiere in 2017.

Legion

This FX series is a psychological thriller, which is a change of pace from the regular Marvel formula. Created by FX’s Fargo showrunner Noah Hawley, Legion tells the story of the young mutant David Haller. Haller is the son of Charles Xavier, who suffers from schizophrenia. This leads to the creation of thousands of personalities with distinct superpowers. Moreover, Legion is the first live-action TV series set in X-Men mythology. This intense psychic thriller is all set to premiere on Feb 8 and stars Dan Stevens.

Iron Fist

Iron Fist

Iron Fist is a well-known superhero to comic fans. As in the comics, Iron Fist tells the story of Daniel Rand, who fights against crime in the city of New York. His proficient Kung-fu mastery and the ability to summon the power of fiery Iron Fist make him a force to be reckoned with.  Iron Fist stars Finn Jones as Danny Rand/Iron Fist and premieres on March 17, 2017.

The Punisher

The Punisher is a spin-off series scheduled to release in 2017. Frank Castle, a.k.a the Punisher, is known to the audiences from the comics and the Netflix series Daredevil, as well as three films of varying degrees of quality. The series revolves around Frank Castle, who uses lethal methods to fight crime as the vigilante “the Punisher”, with Jon Bernthal reprising the role from Daredevil.  The series also stars Deborah Ann Woll and Ben Barnes in lead roles.

The Defenders

The Defenders

This is the Netflix version of The Avengers. The Defenders brings together Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage in their battle against the forces of evil. Also set in the MCU, this series is set to premiere this fall. All the performers from their individual shows return for The Defenders but it’s Sigourney Weaver as the villain that seals the deal.

The Inhumans

This ABC series is set to premiere quite differently from other Marvel TV as the first two episodes will be debuting in IMAX theaters. This is a unique and bold move by Marvel. Marvel changed its theatrical plans for The Inhumans and instead transformed it into a TV series. The production values are expected to be high with action sequences shot using IMAX cameras. Though there’s little information right now, this could be the project that elevates the television incarnation of the Marvel brand.
